As part of its National Coin Week activities, the Huron Valley Numismatic Society (HVNS), which meets in Highland, MI, donated 15 copies of the 2024 Guide Book of United States Coins (the Red Book) to the Huron Valley Schools - one for each school library/media center in the district.
Huron Valley Schools is located in Oakland County, Michigan and serves 8,000 to 9,000 students from the townships of Commerce, Highland, Milford, and White Lake. The hope is that the up-to-date reference books will help students who are curious about old coins they may come across and interest them in the hobby of coin collecting.
The books were purchased at a generous discount from Brian's Wholesale Supply in Port Huron, MI with funds earmarked for young numismatist support in the club's annual budget. And, they were presented to White Lake Middle School Principal Michelle Chotkowski, White Lake Middle School Media Technician Kelly Alicandro, HVS Director of Communications Barb Roethler and HVS Communications Coordinator Kimberly Willis by HVNS club member Jeff Sweeney.
In addition to these books, the club provides an annual monthly subscription to Coin World to the public libraries in Milford, MI and Highland, MI as well as the Cromaine regional public library in Hartland, MI.
